Geothermal Well Inhibitors
Geothermal energy is sustainable, affordable and clean, but the heat transfer system used is still susceptible to scaling and mineral deposits in its water supply. These scales can interfere with other parts of the system or keep the system from performing at its peak efficiency. That’s why Protech offers geothermal operation water treatment products that inhibit scale formation and keep the system cleaner, lowering energy costs.
Our geothermal water additives include ProGeo CA, aimed at inhibiting calcium carbonate scales; and ProGeo SA, which offers amorphous silica scale control. Both are designed to work in the high temperatures and harsh environments of geothermal plants.
Our R & D team conducts laboratory analyzes and pilot tests to determine the most suitable product for the application. Well water is taken as ready or synthetically produced and Dynamic Scale Loop Test (DBT) device with high temperature (+300 C) and high pressure (400 bar) is provided by measuring the differential pressure in the capillary tubes depending on the temperature and pressure of the reservoir, inhibitor tests are made. Differential pressures are monitored online and transferred to the chart during DBT. After the onset of accumulation, the differential pressure increases and the system turns itself off and cleans. During a test, 20 different inhibitor dosages can be tried and two different products can be compared. During the DBT trial, water parameters, temperature and pressure are simulated by 99%, the most successful inhibitor on the base and the Minimum Inhibitor Concentration (MIC) of the inhibitor is determined.
